About Me
“About Me”
I was born and raised in the Deep South – I’m a Bama Girl (Roll Tide ya’ll….if ya know…….ya know). I wasn’t a coal miner’s daughter but my mama certainly was. She was born in Tracy City, Tennessee…..current population 1500, so you can imagine what it was like in the 1930’s. From the time I could sing “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” I had a passion for music that was beyond that of most of my friends….actually beyond anyone I knew. After receiving my MBA in the mid 90’s, my aspirations of working in the music business were stronger than ever. I packed up my car and my cat Charlie…drove across the country to Los Angeles…and never looked back.
‘About Me’ For over 22 years, I worked in the music business, mostly at record labels where I developed an expertise in both marketing and talent management. The majority of my career was at Interscope Records, working closely with the founder and CEO, Jimmy Iovine, and with many of the biggest artists over the last two decades. I eventually moved to 19 Entertainment, which owns American Idol, and was the head of marketing and managed artists, two of them being American Idol winners. However, I have to say that I’m most proud of my “biggest releases,” my two teenage children who live with me and my husband in Los Angeles.
Following my stint at 19 Entertainment, I decided to trade in my fancy, designer jeans and learn how to love my lululemons. As I redirected my career (and fashion sense) to that of a consultant, not only was I able to be more present to my growing children, but I found that I was able to be more present to myself. I’ve been on a very interesting journey over the last few years. I always considered myself to be pretty humble, but I found a whole new level of humility in my “what am I doing with my life” moments. In some ways, that journey came with a price, as it was not always easy, but the rewards have turned out to be so much bigger than I ever could have imagined. I had become very disconnected to the artist and creative soul that was buried deep down inside. Well, I found her, and “she’s back.” I always remind myself that “it’s never to late to be you,” because I am living proof.
I have begun the next chapter of my professional life – my new company, Hippie Rock Chick, which is the “hub” for all of my newfound creative adventures from writing and podcasting to other pursuits of voiceover and acting. When I’m not doing any of those things, you can probably find me watching my daughter on the soccer field or jamming with my son in his music studio – but always….ALWAYS in my lulu’s.
